IL BARBIERE DI SEVIGLIA IN LONDON OPENS THE 2016/17 SEASON
Ferruccio Furlanetto returns to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden to the role of Don Basilio (which he last sang for the Company in 2009) in Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s production of Il barbiere di Siviglia. The fourth revival of the production is conducted by Henrik Nánási, in the title role Italian baritone Vito Priante. Buenos Aires-born mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack makes her Royal Opera debut as Rosina. Also making their Royal Opera debut are Mexican tenor Javier Camarena, who sings the role of Count Almaviva, and Portuguese baritone José Fardilha, singing the role of Doctor Bartolo.
Ferruccio Furlanetto performance of the opera in 2009 was recorded for DVD and got high critical acclaim: “The brilliant Ferruccio Furlanetto adds another vivid portrait to his video gallery with a Basilio of spidery physicality who can boom out an enormously impressive high note, always making it an integral part of the whole.” (Opera News).
Italian bass made his Royal Opera debut in 1995 as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro). He has returned to sing Don Giovanni, Count Walter (Luisa Miller), Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino), Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Philip II (Don Carlo), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin) for The Royal Opera.
You can hear Ferruccio Furlanetto as Don Basiio at the Royal Opera on September 13, 15, 17, 21, 28 at 6.45pm and September 23 at 12 noon.

TWO RECITALS AT THE OPERA AUSTRALIA
Ferruccio Furlanetto returns to Sydney, Opera Australia in September 2017 after his acclaimed performances as King Philip II in Don Carlos to give two recitals with pianist Igor Tchetuev in the intimate surrounds of City Recital Hall.
Furlanetto's powerful interpretation of Schubert's stunning song cycle, Winterreise, captures the energy, despair and sensual longing of the work. Journey with him as he traverses a cold winter landscape, painted one falling leaf and shard of ice at a time by Tchetuev's piano.
A second program explores the soulful poetry of Russian art song. Only the vast expanse of a Russian winter could inspire Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death and Rachmaninov's moody romances. Somehow, the music captures the darkness, cold and longing of a people waiting for the sun, for life and love to return — sparks of light and hope in a bleak night.
City Recital Hall, Angel Place: September 27 – 29, 2017. Tickets are on sale now.

DON QUICHOTTE IN CHICAGO
Lyric Opera of Chicago announced it's season
Chicago Lyric Opera announced the 2016-17 season: Ferruccio Furlanetto will sing leading part in the new to Chicago production of Massenet’s Don Quichotte from November 19 till December 7, 2016, giving 6 performances. Dulcinée - Clementine Margaine, Sancho Panza - Nicola Alaimo. Conductor Sir Andrew Davis, Director - Matthew Ozawa, Set Designer - Ralph Funicello, Costume Designer - Missy West. The production is owned by San Diego Opera.
Anthony Freud, General Director of the Lyric Opera:
“There aren’t many star basses in the world, and fewer still have the voice, style, and sheer charisma for the title role of Don Quichotte. Having been thrilled by Ferruccio Furlanetto’s previous performances at Lyric, and knowing of his devotion to this particular opera, we were eager to present his towering portrayal, which does honor to both the composer and to the great writer Cervantes. Ferruccio will be renewing his collaboration with Sir Andrew Davis, so memorable in our productions of Boris Godunov and Simon Boccanegra.”
98.7WFMT will air the opening performance live locally (also streaming live on wfmt.com). It will be also rebroadcast internationally in Spring 2017 via The WFMT Radio Network. Call 312-827-5600 to purchase subscription tickets, or go to lyricopera.org after February 1.

“SIMON BOCCANEGRA” AT THE MET
On April 1, 5, 9, 13, 16 2016 Ferruccio Furlanetto sang Fiesco in “Simon Boccanegra” at the Met. He joins James Levine at the pit and Plácido Domingo as a Doge in the remarkable study of this Verdi’s opera.
Starting from his debut in 1980 Ferruccio Furlanetto gave more than 200 performances of 16 roles at the Met including Mephistopheles in “Faust”, de Silva in “Ernani”, Don Basilio in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, Fiesco in “Simon Boccanegra”, Philip II and the Grand Inquisitor (debut, 1980) in “Don Carlo”, Cardinal Brogni in “La Juive”, Leporello and Don Giovanni in “Don Giovanni”, and Figaro in “Le Nozze di Figaro”. They were highly appreciated by the public and press. “Mr. Furlanetto meets Verdi’s demanding, wrenching music with commanding power and moving vulnerability in both voice and gesture,” - New York Times wrote. The performance on April 1 was streamed live at the Met Opera web-site. The performance on April 9 (starting on 12-30) was broadcasted live on the Radio as part of Saturday Matinée Broadcast season.
